Logan York, historic preservation officer for the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and a tribe citizen, will share how attending tribal events, stomp dances and language camps as a youth in Missouri and Kansas helped to nurture pride in his ancestors. York’s experiences include earning a degree from the University of Miami in Ohio, and his experiences of living in a state that had removed all American Indian tribes nearly 200 years ago. As his tribe’s historic preservation officer, York is responsible for protecting and preserving property that is culturally significant to the Myaamiaki (Miami people) and their ancestors. York was among the Tribal partners involved in the new “St. Clair’s Defeat Revisited: A New View of the Conflict” exhibit recently unveiled at the Ohio History Connection. A personal item of York’s is displayed in the exhibit. York is also a member of the governor-appointed Ohio Site Preservation Advisory Board.
